I have been working towards ticking off a genuien 50+cm Australian Bass for years and have caught lots at 49cm fork length – so It was great to finally put this one to hand with good mate Matthew Mott at 54cm to the fork and just over 56cm overall – it ate a SMAK Fireblade on Wivenhoe Dam 🤓
I often state that I am only as good as the people I choose to surround myslef with – so it was great spending a few days on Somerset Dam with Jason Ehrlich. I learnt plenty and we landed a stack of quality bass to 49cm fork using his Hot Bite Gang Banger spoons and Spectra Vibration Jigs 😉
Katrina managed plenty of quality fish as well – but the 50+cm one eluded her this trip …
This one went 52cm to the fork and ate a Palms Slow Blatt – which accounted for quite a few quality fish this trip 😉

Its not all about trophy bass and catfish in Wivenhoe Dam – there are also some solid Yellowbelly in there as well 😉
Really enjoyed our week bass fishing based at Esk which makes fishing both Somerset & Wivenhoe dams an easy choice. We stayed at the Esk Caravan Park which has comfortable cabins and we ate each night at Esk Grand Hotel where the food is excellent and the beers are cold – say G’day to Joe the next time your there for us 😉
