Some fly fishing to kickoff the New Year

If you have been following my Facebook page you would know I am heading off on a flyfishing trip of a lifetime to Colombia to chase Peacock Bass & Payara this year – so I thought I better pick up a fly rod and get some practice 😉

Local mate Billy Moore has spent almost two years designing and building an alloy flats boats https://www.facebook.com/FlatsratSkiffs/ and invited me out for a day to see how she goes 

The ability to go skinny when flats fishing can be the difference between getting teh shot or not – and Billy’s New FlatsRat Skiff goes skinny floating fully loaded in 300mm of water!

Using a  https://au.yeti.com/ as a casting platform also make a BIG difference when looking for fish – the extra elevation is great and it keeps your lunch and drinks cool as well 😉

Unfortunately, our flats across Hervey Bay are not a reflection of what was once a “World Class” fishery due to increased commercial netting – which we hope will change this year under the completion of the Full Term Review of the Great Sandy Marine Park due to be finalised by June 2020 …
